We are a small rabbitry located in Mechanic Falls, Maine. We got started with Lionheads and in the process
of acquiring a buck to go with the REW doe I had bought we met Chris Gurney. He was working at the rabbit barn at the Oxford Fair
in 2005 when my family went looking for a bunny. I really didn't find any Lionhead bucks that I wanted at the time and he told me
that we could go the Cumberland Fair in a couple of weeks and that there would be some there because he had some little ones that
would be old enough to sell then.
My husband and I went to the fair to check out the rabbits and left our
kids home with their Grammy because we had never been to the Cumberland Fair and weren't sure how big it was. We ended up buying a
couple of Lionheads and Chris encouraged us to hang around and watch the rabbit show that would be taking place. We stayed and were
fascinated by the whole thing.
We filled out an application to join the Cumberland County Rabbit Breeders
Association. We did more research about different breeds of rabbits and Chris was nice enough to let us come over and see some of
the different breeds of rabbits that he had so we could find good breeds for our kids.
We took the kids to
the February CCRBA rabbit show. Our daughter Cheyenne was hooked and wanted to own a bunny and be able to show it. Spencer is a little
more reserved and wasn't really sure that he wanted to show but he fell in love with a little Dwarf Hotot sport doe that Chris had
for sale. We came home that day from the show with three Holland Lops, two grand champions we bought from Chris and one that my husband
took chances on in the raffle. We also bought the Dwarf Hotot sport that Spencer wanted.
We have
since expanded our breeds. Now we have Lionheads, Holland Lops, Dwarf Hotots, Mini Lops, Netherland Dwarfs, Polish, French Lops, and
English Lops. Ken got really interested in Mini Lops and Polish from talking to Chris when he was showing those breeds. Cheyenne
and Spencer are both showing now and think that they should have some of each breed that we have and be able to show them. I really
enjoy the French and English Lops and hope that I can develop really good lines of them.
We love going
to rabbit shows and talking to people about our rabbits. If you have any questions about any of the rabbits you see on our website
please email us and we will try to answer them.
